Interesting once a week fact resolution #13

Sundays…

Here you dress up for almost everything, but most especially for church. Here’s a picture of my first malian outfit I had made, which has since been modified to not look quite so much like I’m wearing a maternity top!  It’s not always that easy to choose fabric that will look nice as a skirt or complete outfit and it’s not always easy to choose the model or style to have made.  When I imagined how this outfit would look, the top wasn’t quite this big.   Oops!

The church service I went to this past Sunday was packed with all the men sitting on the left side and all the women and young children on the right. When you first enter the church there are often times attendants that will guide you to a seat. The service kicks off with about an hour of singing, clapping, and moving to the groove. Then the choirs (yes more than 1) sing and then we go to announcements. It’s right around this time, during announcements and the beginning of the sermon, that the attendants go on sleep patrol. They walk up and down the isles looking for sleepers at least once during the service. That’s right, you want to sleep, you go home and do it. Don’t even think you can get away with it here because these sleep patrollers are thorough. They kind of remind me of flight attendants that walk through the plane before take off to make sure everyone is properly buckled in. I haven’t actually seen anyone get caught sleeping, but I’m sure it’s embarrassing.

ENJOY!!

Ha! That’s funny. Would love if that happened in the States! :) You look adorable in your Malian outfit. How do you ride a bike in that?
Ok, hoping to skype you today if you’re home this afternoon.
